However, rarely found here typically limited to areas far away from streets and roads. The Southernmost eastern box turtles may be found in elevations up to 6,000 feet high! Eastern Box Turtle for sale – Eastern Box Habitat
In the wild, Eastern box turtles prefer thick green forests and mixed forests as well. They spend their time equally between evergreen and mixed forests. The eastern box turtle is known to appreciate a moderately moist forest floor with good drainage. Bottomland forest seems to be more popular than ridges and hillsides. Sometimes eastern box turtles are encountered in non-forested areas, such as grasslands and pastures. Just as in the forests, the turtles want the floor to be moderately moist in these environments and seek out areas with wet leaves or wet dirt.
If it is hot outside you will find eastern box turtles cool off by bathing in puddles and shallow streams. Easterns will submerge themselves in mud, sometimes for as long as a week at a time, to stay cool and avoid the heat. Consider this when setting up the habitat for your new Eastern box turtle for sale.
Eastern Box turtles for sale – EBT Body
Adult Eastern box turtles are normally around 4-6 inches, with one in 50 being as large as 6.5″.
When examining the carapace of an EBT, you will notice it is high and dome-shaped. Also, you will find a well-hinged plastron that makes it possible for the turtle to completely close the shell. The ability to completely close the shell is also found on all other box turtle species including the Florida box turtle, Three-toed box turtle, Ornate Box turtle, and Chinese box turtle. Coloration varies based on locale. Also, the carapace of an eastern box turtle is normally black in color, marked with orange and/or yellow lines and dots. Naturally, these colors blend in with the natural environment of the EBT.
