Southern Painted Turtles are available in different color morphs. We recommend starting with them as babies to grow alongside them. Each has their own personalities and it tends to be easier to work with them as babies instead of fully grown.
These turtles are aquatic and will spend most of the time in the water. In the wild, they are mostly active during the day and enjoy basking in the warm weather. They are easy to scare and the slightest movement or sound will make them react. These amazing turtles have great personalities and like to be personable. It is not uncommon to see them swimming up close to you expecting to get fed.
It is common for people to confuse this turtle with the Red Eared Slider. The main difference is that they are flatter than the slider. It is also missing the prominent red markings on the side of its head and a spotted bottom shell. Both traits are not found on the painted turtle.
